LET ‘EM OUT

STADIUM INTRO FILM CONCEPT

The last few years of football have undoubtedly altered the energy surrounding a Denver Broncos game. It’s time to think forward.

This intro film concept is meant to feel different, and it is meant to have context.

The Sand Wash Basin in Colorado is a real place, with real wild horses. They roam freely there, albeit contained behind perimeter fences.

With the subtext of the Broncos “roaming behind the fences” before the game and ultimately for the last few years,

MAYBE IT’S ABOUT TIME WE LET ‘EM OUT.

  • NARRATION: An older mans voice, a rancher type with a bit of a draw. Feels like it is from an interview.

  • VISUALS: No/minimal graphics. A dramatic, cinematic, single-camera live action film with sweeping Colorado landscapes and slow camera movement.

  • MUSIC: See the spec score below, written and performed by Sam Ryan. It’s not perfect or quite big enough, might be a little dark, but it’s original. Also find inspiration from “The Oil” by Hans Zimmer.

THE EXPERIENCE

The Bronco heads at the player tunnel are replaced by a large “farm” gate… waiting to be broken open. The film communicates anticipation, with a little bit of fear mixed in. We don’t see any characters (horses) in the video initially… the camera looks over hills, slowly looks around trees, nervously searches for the wild animals. We begin to sense their presence… Storm clouds brew over the basin.

In the video (perhaps mimicked on the field simultaneously) a jolt of lightning blasts the lock on the gate and it swings open… But rather than hearing thunder immediately after, we see hooves startle into action and dust clouds form as the horses appear and sprint towards the gate.

They are the thunder.

The music leans in to a chaotic climax. We see the now wide open gate with dust trails coming towards us, and the camera begins to shake…

Play music loudly in headphones, scroll slowly & dramatically

SAND WASH BASIN

NORTHWESTERN COLORADO

“They may be called wildlife up here…

But there’s a reason you see all those fences around.

It’s their world in there…

I like the chaos in there…

The wiiild west…

That’s what Colorado is supposed to be…

So I say… let ‘em out (with a laugh)

[Gate is open… dust clouds are heading towards us]

[Cut to black before players run out of the gate behind Thunder]

Production

  • Could be achieved in a 2-4 day shoot on location in Western Colorado

  • Minimal crew/gear required: Use our own cameras and personnel

  • Scale could be as big or small as desired

    • (1) Coordinate with live animals (2) See what’s captured of the real wild horses (3) Use simple computer generated elements (dust clouds to hide the need for details of horses)

  • Use of heavy lift camera car could add production value (https://floomboom.com)

  • Capture footage that has shelf life and could be used for many other game elements
